Life is a jest: and all things show it.
I thought so once: but now I know it.

A vida é um ardil; tudo aponta p'ra isso.
Assim pensei certa vez; agora, eu sei disso.

This leaf from a tree in the East,
Has been given to my garden.
It reveals a certain secret,
Which pleases me and thoughtful people.

Does it represent One living creature
Which has divided itself?
Or are these Two, which have decided,
That they should be as One?

To reply to such a Question,
I found the right answer:
Do you notice in my songs and verses
That I am One and Two?

Essa folha de uma árvore do Oriente
Brotou em meu jardim
Ela revela certo segredo
Que me atrai e às pessoas contemplativas

Ela representa Uma só criatura
Que a si mesmo se dividiu?
Ou são duas, que decidiram
Que Uma deveriam ser?

Para responder a essa questão,
Descobri a resposta certa:
Notas que em minhas canções e em meus versos
Sou Um e sou Dois?

Nothing is without a reason for why it is rather than is not.
[Nihil est sine ratione cur potius sit quam non sit]

Para tudo há uma razão suficiente para assim ser e não de outro modo.

"The better consciousness in me lifts me into a world where there is no longer personality and causality or subject or object. My hope and belief is that this better (supersensible and extra-temporal) consciousness will become my only one, and for that reason I hope that it is not God. But if anyone wants to use the expression God symbolically for the better consciousness itself or for much that we are able to separate or name, so let it be, yet not among philosophers I would have thought."

A melhor consciência em mim eleva-me a um mundo em que não há personalidade nem causalidade, nem sujeito, nem objeto. Minha esperança e crença é de que essa melhor consciência (suprassensível e extratemporal) torne-se a minha única, e, por essa razão, espero que ela não se chame Deus. Entretanto, se alguém quiser usar o termo Deus simbolicamente para a melhor consciência, ou para o que quer que assim possamos denominar ou definir, que assim seja, embora não entre filósofos, eu diria.

THE HEART SUTRA

Om Homage to the Perfection of Wisdom the Lovely, the Holy !

Avalokita, the Holy Lord and Bodhisattva, was moving in the deep course of the Wisdom which has gone beyond.

He looked down from on high, He beheld but five heaps, and He saw that in their own-being they were empty.

Here, O Sariputra,

form is emptiness and the very emptiness is form ;

emptiness does not differ from form, form does not differ from emptiness, whatever is emptiness, that is form,

the same is true of feelings, perceptions, impulses, and consciousness.

Here, O Sariputra,

all dharmas are marked with emptiness ;

they are not produced or stopped, not defiled or immaculate, not deficient or complete.

Therefore, O Sariputra,

in emptiness there is no form nor feeling, nor perception, nor impulse, nor consciousness ;

No eye, ear, nose, tongue, body, mind ; No forms, sounds, smells, tastes, touchables or objects of mind ; No sight-organ element, and so forth, until we come to :

No mind-consciousness element ; There is no ignorance, no extinction of ignorance, and so forth, until we come to : There is no decay and death, no extinction of decay and death. There is no suffering, no origination, no stopping, no path.

There is no cognition, no attainment and no non-attainment.

Therefore, O Sariputra,

it is because of his non-attainmentness that a Bodhisattva, through having relied on the Perfection of Wisdom, dwells without thought-coverings. In the absence of thought-coverings he has not been made to tremble,

he has overcome what can upset, and in the end he attains to Nirvana.

All those who appear as Buddhas in the three periods of time fully awake to the utmost, right and perfect Enlightenment because they have relied on the Perfection of Wisdom.

Therefore one should know the prajnaparamita as the great spell, the spell of great knowledge, the utmost spell, the unequalled spell, allayer of all suffering, in truth -- for what could go wrong ? By the prajnaparamita has this spell been delivered. It runs like this :

gate gate paragate parasamgate bodhi svaha.

( Gone, gone, gone beyond, gone altogether beyond, O what an awakening, all-hail ! -- )

This completes the Heart of perfect Wisdom.

O SUTRA DO CORAÇÃO

Em reverência à Perfeição da Adorável e Sagrada Sabedoria!

Avalokita, o Sagrado Senhor e Bodhisattva, estava percorrendo o profundo caminho da Sabedoria que se encontra mais além.

Das alturas, ele olhou para baixo, contemplou senão cinco fardos, e percebeu em seu próprio ser que eles eram vazios.

Eis que, ó Sariputra,

a forma é vazio e o próprio vazio é forma;

o vazio não é diferente da forma, a forma não é diferente do vazio; o que quer que seja vazio, isso é forma;

assim também é com as sensações, as percepções, os impulsos e a consciência.

Eis que, ó Sariputra,

todos os dharmas são marcados pelo vazio;

não são produzidos, nem interrompidos; não são eivados ou imaculados; não são deficientes ou completos.

Portanto, ó Sariputra,

no vazio, não há forma, nem sensação, nem percepção, nem impulso, nem consciência;

não há olhos, ouvidos, nariz, língua, corpo, mente; não há formas, sons, odores, sabores, matéria ou objetos da mente; não há elementos observáveis e, por conseguinte, até que compreendamos:

não há elementos da mente consciente; não há ignorância, não há extinção da ignorância; e, assim, até que compreendamos: não há declínio e não há morte; não há extinção do declínio, nem extinção da morte. Não há sofrimento, não há origem, não há fim, não há caminho.

Não há conhecimento, não há consecução e não há não-consecução.

Por isso, ó Sariputra,

é que, em virtude de sua não-consecução e por ter confiado na Perfeição da Sabedoria, um Bodhisattva vive sem véus sobre o pensamento. Sem véus sobre o pensamento, ele não é conduzido pelo medo,

ele supera aquilo que pode perturbá-lo; e, ao fim, ele alcança o Nirvana.

Todos aqueles que surgem como Budas nos três períodos do tempo despertam completamente para a suprema, perfeita e reta Iluminação, porque confiaram na Perfeição da Sabedoria.

Portanto, deve-se ter o prajnaparamita como a grande fórmula, a fórmula do grande conhecimento, a fórmula exemplar, a fórmula inigualável: na verdade, o bálsamo para todo o sofrimento – pois, o que poderia ser errado? Com o prajnaparamita, tal fórmula foi entregue. Ela é assim entoada:

gate gate paragate parasamgate bodhi svaha.

(Vá, vá, vá além, vá além infinito! Oh, que despertar! Salve! -- )

Assim se completa o Coração da Perfeita Sabedoria.

SRI MA ANANDAMAYI'S NATURE

“Why does not the Mother answer to the cry of Her children?” She was once asked.
Immediately without a moment’s deliberation, rang Her voice – “Pitaji, Pitaji”. There was no response to Her call.
Once more She called and someone stood up in the hall and responded. She laughed and She laughs with the whole of Her being, and triumphantly said –

“You did not answer, because you thought I was not serious in calling you. But you answered when you realized that I was calling you. Likewise the great Mother knows when Her children are at play and when they really need Her.

They call Her often without really wanting Her.

But when they fall and, are hurt and cry for Her help, She answers immediately.”

One is reminded of Christ’s teaching – “Ask and ‘it shall be given you; seek and you shall find; knock and it shall be opened unto you.” But this asking, seeking and knocking must be genuine, must out of the depths of our being; only when there is this integral demand, will there be an appropriate answer.

NATUREZA DE SRI MA ANANDAMAYI

“Por que a Mãe não responde ao chamado de Seus filhos?”, lhe perguntaram da plateia.
De imediato, sem nenhuma hesitação, a voz dela ecoou em um chamado: – “Pitaji, Pitaji”. Não houve resposta.
Ela chamou mais uma vez e alguém se levantou no salão e respondeu.
Ela riu como sempre ria - com todo o seu ser - e disse, triunfantemente,

“Você não me respondeu antes porque achou que eu não o estava chamando verdadeiramente.

Porém, respondeu assim que percebeu que eu estava realmente chamando.

Do mesmo modo, a grande Mãe sabe quando Seus filhos estão brincando

e quando realmente precisam Dela.

Eles A chamam frequentemente sem de fato precisarem Dela.

Mas, quando eles caem e se machucam, e choram por Sua Ajuda,

Ela lhes responde imediatamente.”

Podemos associar essa resposta ao ensinamento de Cristo: – “Pedi e vos será dado; buscai e achareis; batei e vos será aberto” (Mateus, 7:7). Entretanto, o pedido, a busca, a batida devem ser genuínos, devem vir das profundezas do seu ser. Somente quando há um chamado integral, a resposta adequada lhe é entregue.

Nada le hago a nadie.

Pero nadie camina solo.

Tampoco el pez nada así.

Ninguém faz nada a mim.

Não faço nada a ninguém.

Mas ninguém caminha só.

Tampouco o peixe nada assim.
